A breakthrough for high-power laser systems
Prof. Dan Marom and doctoral student Yoav Dana of the Institute of Applied Physics have developed a tiny optical device that efficiently integrates light from an array of dozens of small semiconductor lasers (VCSELs) into a single multimodal optical fiber. The study, published in Nature Communications, presents a new architecture for technology that could simplify and improve high-power laser systems, optical communications, and other photonic applications. The study was conducted in collaboration with Civan Lasers and was funded by the Israel Innovation Authority.
