To create material that behaves like a living creature: PhD student Ido Levin and Prof. Eran Sharon from the Rakach Institute of Physics at the Hebrew University,

In collaboration with Professor Robert Digan of the University of Michigan, they recently conducted a first-of-its-kind study.

In their research work they tried to create sheets that respond to signals coming from internal reactions, similar to actions in living tissues.

A clear example of such living tissue is the heart, whose local contraction is activated by a chemical-electrical single (action potential) that progresses in the pericardium, independently.
